The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Central Committee meeting will take place today under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The SLFP's main decision-making body will meet today amid attempts by a section of the party to oust President Sirisena from the party leadership.
When asked about the agenda of the CC meeting today, a senior SLFP Parliamentarian said it would focus more on strengthening the party's internal structure.
"This year (2019) will be an election year. Therefore, the party's internal structures and affiliated organizations should be strengthened," he added.
When asked whether the party would take action against the crossover MPs at today's meeting, the Parliamentarian said it was up to the President to make that decision.
"If the President is of the view that the crossover MPs have violated the party constitution, the President will propose to the Central Committee to initiate action against them," he said.
Meanwhile, the Organization to Protest SLFP, headed by former Kaduwela Mayor G.H. Buddhadasa, held a press conference in Colombo and severely criticized the conduct of the President.
