Nearly 25 electorate organizers of the SLFP have threatened to resign from their posts in protest of President Maithripala Sirisena's leadership.
The organizers, Asian Mirror learns, are currently working the Organization to Protect Sri Lanka Freedom Party, headed by G.H. Buddhadasa.
Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kunaratunga has also extended her support to the organization.
They decided to resign from their posts against the SLFP's decision to join forces with the Sri Lanka Podujana Party, led by the Rajapaksa group.
They claim that the decision to enter into an alliance with the SLFP has undermined the SLFP's interests.
The organizers raised serious concerns about the matter during a meeting at the SLFP headquarters in the last week of December. Following the stormy meeting, the President ordered to close down the SLFP headquarters until his return from Thailand.
