Citizens and civil activists gathered at the Liberty roundabout this evening demanding the total abolition of Executive Presidency and other democratic reforms.
Similar protests took place at the same venue during the constitutional crisis which ended last Sunday with the reappointment of UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister.
Two days after the apparent resolution of the crisis, the civil activists staged a protest demanding meaningful reforms and integrity from politicians of all sides.
The protesters said they would continue to occupy the Liberty roundabout until they see meaningful reforms in the legislature.
The UNP and the JVP today agreed in principle to proceed with constitutional reforms to abolish Executive Presidency.
Although the TNA too supports the initiative, they are still short of 24 MPs to secure a two-thirds majority to pass the amendment in the House.
