IGP Pujith Jayasundara has ordered the Special Investigations Unit of the Police to conduct an investigation into a remark made by trade Union leader Saman Rathnapriya at a recent press conference in Colombo.
Speaking to the media, Rathnapriya said President Maithripala Siridena should recall what happened to Gadaffi, the former Libyan leader, before suppressing democracy in the country.
The IGP ordered the SIU to investigate if Rathnapriya's comments posed a threat to national security.
Police sources said the SIU would soon summon Rathnapriya to record a statement on the matter.
