The United National Party raised questions over salaries of state sector employees after January 01 in the face of President Maithripala Sirisena's continued refusal to form a legitimate government.
"The President's refusal to appoint a legitimate government has meant over 1 million government servants will not receive salaries after January 01," the UNP tweeted this morning.
"We demand that a government who has clearly demonstrated that it holds the majority in Parliament be appointed, " the UNP also said.
Meanwhile, addressing an SLFP convention at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium last week, Sirisena said he would resolve the political crisis within 07 days.
The timeline Sirisena set for himself, however, ends today.
