The United National Party will present a motion in Parliament on December 12, expressing support to UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera said today.
The motion of confidence, he said, would be presented to the House by UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa.
Speaking to the media in Colombo this morning, Perera said the UNP would show its majority in Parliament for the seventh consecutive time, on December 12.
The UNP said 117 MPs in the House had expressed supported to UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to become the Prime Minister.
The TNA MPs have given a letter to the President they will support the UNF's nominee for the premiership and the UNF, in return, has communicated to them that party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is the UNP's nominee for the Prime Minister's post.
The confidence motion in Parliament will once again demonstrate the UNP's leader's majority support in the House.
President Maithripala Sirisena, however, informed UNF Parliamentarians earlier this week that he would not re-appoint Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister, even if all 225 MPs in Parliament supported him.
