The United National Party held a special discussion with foreign diplomats in Colombo this morning informed political sources said.
They added that the UNP stalwarts, at the meeting, briefed the diplomats about the current political situation in the country.
The UNP pointed out that the President had deprived UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe of the premiership despite its majority support in Parliament.
The party added 117 lawmakers in the House had pledged support to Ranil Wickremesinghe.
However, addressing the SLFP convention earlier this week, President Maithripala Sirisena blamed the UNP and its leader for "worshipping foreign embassies" in Colombo.
Sirisena hitting out at the UNP's engagement with foreign diplomats said he only "worshipped" the people and their will.
