Fort Magistrate Ranga Dassanayake today granted bail to Chief of Defence Staff Ravidra Wijeguneratne who was arrested last week to prevent instructions to the witnesses in the case.
Wijegunaratne was released after the Fort Police station refused to name him a suspect in the intimidation of the witness in the navy abductions case.
Lt Commander Laksiri Galagamage, who allegedly came under assault inside the Navy headquarters last week, did not object to the bail application of the Chied of Defence Staff.
Wijegunaratne has been named a suspect in the case over abductions and killings of 11 youth by a Navy affiliated criminal gang.
