President Maithripala Sirisena has held a discussion with former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa last night on the current political situation. 

Sources close to both parties confirmed that the discussion lasted nearly an hour, although its outcome still remains a secret. 

The meeting between Sirisena and Basil Rajapaksa took place after Sirisena met a group of UPFA representatives, last night. 

The President postponed a meeting he scheduled with the UNF party leaders to clear his schedule for the two meetings. 

The President is expected to meet the UNF party leaders tonight at 8 PM.
