The purported government, led by President Maithripala Sirisena and his Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, today announced the third fuel price reduction in a month.
The decision, however, was announced amidst strong claims by four political parties in the opposition that there is no government in the country. They also maintain that the decisions by the purported government have no legal standing, as the government stands dissolved after the no-confidence motion carried in Parliament.
UPFA MP Gamini Lokuge, who holds the position as the Minister of Petroleum, said prices of petrol and diesel would be reduced by Rs 5 with effect from midnight today.
Former Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera has claimed that the purported government is benefitted by price reductions in the global oil market.
