The motion to cut off budgetary allocations to cabinet, state and deputy ministers of the purported government was passed in Parliament, a short while ago, with 122 MPs voting in favour. 

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya held a vote on the motion via electronic system and the MPs representing the UNP, the JVP and the TNA voted in favour of the motion. 

The move will prevent ministry secretaries from accessing funds of the republic to pay for salaries and other expenses of cabinet, state and deputy ministers of the purported government and their personal staff members. 

UNP Parliamentarian and former minister Patali Champika Ranawaka presented the motion in Parliament, this morning. 

The motion has been presented to the House exercising Parliament's powers on handling all affairs relating to public finance, according to Article 148 of the Constitution. 

A similar motion seeking to cut off budgetary allocations to the Prime Minister's Office was put to vote in Parliament yesterday and passed with the support of 123 MPs.
