Parliamentarian Wijedasa Rajapaksa attended the parliamentary session this morning, despite the collective decision made by the group supporting former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to boycott the proceedings of the House.
Wijedasa sat alone on the side of the ruling party MPs in Parliament and also made a speech explaining his position on the current political deadlock.
"Forget the postmortem of who did right and wrong, but look to rebuild trust and bring the country out of this situation. To this I am committed," Wijedasa Rajapakshe said, adding that those who have the parliamentary majority should be able to form a government.
"In this constitutional deadlock, the responsibility of Parliament is to put aside political opportunism and to work towards the stability of the country," Rajapakshe also added.
He also commended the sacrifice made by the UNP in selecting Maithripala Sirisena as the Common Candidate. "But I know that things did not go smoothly at times and don't parties ran into problems."
Meanwhile, Athuraliye Rathana Thera, a Parliamentarian supporting President Maithripala Sirisena, also attended the sessions today.
