Speaker Karu Jayasuriya declared that the second No Confidence Vote against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was passed in Parliament.
Amidst severe interruptions by UPFA MPS, Speaker Jayasuriya, standing in the aisle of Parliament, conducted a voice vote on the second No-Confidence Motion against Rajapaksa.
The second motion did not challenge the clause challenging the gazette notifications issued by the President. However, it stated the House did not have confidence in Mahinda Rajapaksa and his purported government.
The UPFA MPs conducted a protest inside Parliament without allowing daily proceedings to take place. UPFA MP Arundika Fernando was seated in the Speaker's Chair.
The Speaker then requested the Police protection and walked into a house guarded by a host of Police officers. Some of the officers came under attack from the protesting UPFA MPs.
As the UPFA MPs kept protesting and did not allow a vote by name, the Speaker conducted a Voice Vote, amid severe interruptions.
