UNP Parliamentarians are currently in the process of signing affidavits pledging their support to party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to become the Prime Minister.
Speaking to Asian Mirror, a party stalwart expresses confidence that Wickremwsinghe would easily secure the confidence of a parliamentary majority, making himself eligible to become the Prime Minister again.
He said the TNA, the largest Tamil party in the North, would also support Wickremesinghe's Prime Ministerial bid.
Parliament is expected to take another vote tomorrow on the No Confidence Motion against Rajapaksa, minus its first clause.
The President, at a party leaders meeting last evening, had agreed to accept the will of the legislature. In return, the President had asked them to remove the first clause of the motion which challenges two gazette notifications issued by him.
