President Maithripala Sirisena, at the meeting he held with political party leaders his evening, had promised that Parliament would not be prorogued again.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya too attended the meeting, along with leaders of all political parties supporting the No Confidence Motion against Mahinda Rajapaksa. The UNP was represented by its General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Assistant Leader Ravi Karunanayake and several other party seniors.
The President had told the party leaders that he had no problem with accepting the opinion of Parliament, but had some issues with the manner the No Confidence vote was taken in Parliament.
At this point, party leaders agreed to conduct another vote on the No Confidence motion against Rajapaksa when Parliament convenes tomorrow.
Sirisena has also informed the party leaders that he would take measures to resolve the political crisis within the next few days.
