Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Leader Rauff Hakeem demanded a Presidential election from President Maithripala Sirisena.
"When we meet the President today, at 5 PM, we will ask for a Presidential election," SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem said. "We challenge Maithripala Sirisena to be the Presidential candidate."
Parliament, he said, could not be dissolved before four and a half years. "But there is no restriction on the Presidential election. Let's go for a Presidential election and seek a mandate from the people."
Meanwhile, JHU Leader Patali Champika Ranawaka, addressing the same rally, demanded the President to hold a Presidential election and a Parliamentary election on the same day.
"We want Sirisena to become the Presidential candidate and Rajapaksa to become the Prime Ministerial candidate. We will defeat both of them, together," he added.
Ranawaka vowed to oust President Sirisena with the support of everyone who rallied around their campaign in January, 2015.
