Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and other party leaders supporting the No Confidence Motion against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will meet President Maithripala Sirisena at 5 pm today.
The meeting is aimed at working out a solution to appoint a new government as soon as possible. Addressing a press conference at the Parliamentary complex, a short while ago, UNP MP Patali Champika Ranawaka confirmed the meeting with the President.
Meanwhile, all MPs who voted in favour of the No Confidence Motion will also give affidavits affirming their opposition to Rajapaksa and his purported government.
Writing a response to President Sirisena, Speaker Jayasuriya reiterated that the correct procedure was followed when adopting the No Confidence Motion against Rajapaksa.
Jayasuriya said he informed the MPs thrice that he would conduct a voice vote on the No Confidence Motion due to continued disruption by pro-Rajapaksa MPs.
