Issuing a response to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, President Maithripala Sirisena refused to accept the letter sent by the Speaker on the No Confidence Motion adopted by Parliament this evening.
Sirisena, in his response, said Jayasuriya had failed to follow Parliamentary traditions, Standing Orders and procedures when the NCM against Rajapaksa was taken up in the House today.
In another interesting remark, he said the Parliamentary tradition does not make it necessary to prove the parliamentary majority for the Prime Miinister and the President is the sole authority when it comes to the appointment of the Prime Minister.
Sirisena also said the list of signatures attached with the motion had not been certified by Parliament and added that the date of the motion had also been changed later, in an unacceptable matter.
