A fresh controversy is brewing over UPFA Parliamentarian Vasudewa Nanayakkara's remarks that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will make a special statement in Parliament tomorrow. 

Nanayakkara said Rajapaksa would make a statement on the current political situation and the "government's future plans". 

However, the UNP has asserted that it will not allow Rajapaksa to make a special statement in Parliament as the latter is now a mere parliamentarian in the House without any special portfolio. 

UNP MP Dr. Harsha de Silva, citing Article 48(2) of the constitution said Rajapaksa's purported government stood dissolved as the No Confidence Motion was adopted by Parliament this morning. 

Several UNP Parliamentarians made it clear that they would not allow Rajapaksa to make a statement and insisted that the former President must now make a public statement announcing his resignation.
