The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), issuing an official statement, distanced the party from Namal Kuamara saying it has not many any final decision on nominations for the next election.
The party said there was no truth to the remarks saying Namal Kumara would contest the next Parliamentary election on the SLPP ticket.
Namal Kumara, the man who revealed the alleged assassination plot on President Maithripala Sirisena, today claimed that he would contest the Parliamentary election under the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
Kumara is believed to be a former employee at the Presidential Secretariat.
Speaking to media today, he said he decided to take to politics due to strong requests from the public. "I risked my life when I revealed the alleged assassination plot on the President. People in my area want me to show the same commitment in the sphere of politics," he added.
Kumara also said his only objective was to serve the public and this strong desire led him to pursue a career in politics.
