Namal Kumara, the man who revealed the alleged assassination plot on President Maithripala Sirisena, has claimed that he will contest the Parliamentary election under the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). 

Kumara is believed to be a former employee at the Presidential Secretariat. 

Speaking to media today, he said he decided to take to politics due to strong requests from the public. "I risked my life when I revealed the alleged assassination plot on the President. People in my area want me to show the same commitment in the sphere of politics," he added. 

Kumara also said his only objective was to serve the public and this strong desire led him to pursue a career in politics. 

He often came under attacks from several key ministers of the previous government. Former Army Commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka described Kumara as a "lunatic", while others have dubbed him as a man carrying out a political contract.
