Former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman today questioned as to why the Tamil National Alliance could not support President Maithripala Sirisena when Mahinda Rajapaksa had promised them the release of Tamil political prisoners and the President had promised them the release of lands. 

"Hon. Prime Minister Rajapaksa promised to release Tamil prisoners. President Maithripala Sirisena promised to release lands. Why the Tamil National Alliance support Ranil Wickremesinghe?" (sic) he tweeted this morning. 

This comes as a response to the TNA's decision to support Ranil Wickremesinghe in the floor vote in Parliament, on November 14, to determine who holds the majority. 

Muralitharan. a strong supporter of Rajapaksa, previously said he was working with some key Tamil Diaspora organizations to ensure the defection of several TNA MPs. 

However, so far only one Parliamentarian has defected from the Tamil National Alliance to support Mahinda Rajapaksa's Prime Ministerial bid.
