US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alaina Teplitz met Speaker Karu Jayasuriya this morning for a crucial discussion, amid a growing political crisis. 

The US ambassador said the purpose of the meeting was to "discuss the importance of Parliament reconvening to put an end to this political crisis."

Before she met the Speaker, the US Ambassador also met Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan and held an extensive discussion on resolving the political crisis in Sri Lanka. 

TNA sources said the Opposition Leader informed the US Ambassador that the political crisis should be resolved by convening Parliament immediately.
