Wasantha Senanayake, who recently took oaths as the Minister of Tourism and Wildlife, has left for the United Kingdom, this morning, Asian Mirror learns.
When contacted by us, his offices said the newly appointed Minister left the country to attend the World Travel Mart (WTM) in London in the capacity of the Tourism Minister.
"Sri Lanka's new tourism tagline "So Sri Lanka" will be unveiled at the WTM. It's a pre-scheduled event and the Minister is required to attend WTM representing the country," the spokesman added.
However, the spokesman said he was not aware when the Minister would return.
Issuing a statement, his office also denied allegations that he accepted Rs. 500 million to join the Sirisena-Rajapaksa government.
Meanwhile, Asian Mirror reported yesterday that a group of UNP MPs, led by former Minister Ravi Karunanayake, were seen at Wasantha Senanayake's Colombo residence on Friday morning.
The group visited his office shortly after 118 MPs backed a motion before Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to convene Parliament immediately.
