the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP group today decided to nominate Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena as the Leader of the House.
Although the group has decided on its nominee for the key post in Parliament, they still remain silent on convening the House - as demanded by political parties, civil organizations, and the international community.
Addressing a press conference this morning, UPFA MP Keheliya Rambukwella rejected the Speaker's statement that Parliament will be reconvened on November 7th.
"Utter lies! Only the President has the powers to reconvene Parliament. He will convene Parliament in due course," Rambukwella, a spokesman of the new government, said.
Rambukwella also accused the international media of only listening to Wickremesinghe and Jayasuriya.
"We have already secured a majority in Parliament," he added, stating that several UNP MPs will also side with them in the "next few days."
