Over 118 MPs are currently in Parliament, holding a meeting with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, to convene Parliament immediately.
Speaking to Asian Mirror, a senior UNP Parliamentarian said their leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe could not attend the meeting due to the current political situation.
The MPs unanimously passed a motion to convene Parliament without delay and uphold democracy.
MPs from the United National Front, the Tamil National Alliance, and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna were present at the meeting.
"The MPs resolved that the purported removal of the Prime Minister and the purported appointment of another Prime Minister by the President on 26 October 2018 was unconstitutional and illegal. Also they demand that Speaker disregard the purported prorogation of Parliament and convene Parliament forthwith," TNA Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran said.
The Speaker has informed to the MPs that he is awaiting the President's gazette notification to reconvene Parliament on November 07.
"If that does not happen today, I will take appropriate action using my powers as the Speaker," the Speaker said.
