During a discussion held with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, President Maithripala Sirisena has said he will "consider" convening Parliament before November 16.
The meeting had lasted for over an hour and the sources close to President Sirisena said the discussion was "cordial".
They also added that President Sirisena was considering the possibility of convening Parliament on Monday or Tuesday.
The UNP and other key parties in the oppositions have firmly demanded that Parliament should be convened on Friday (02).
The speaker's meeting with the President followed two letters he written to Sirisena, requesting to convene Parliament to discuss the current political situation.
May diplomatic missions in Colombo, including the US, the UK, Canada, Germany and Switzerland, urged both President Sirisena and Speaker Jayasuriya to convene Parliament.
