Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has convened a party leaders meeting tomorrow at 11 am to discuss the possibility of reconvening Parliament despite President Maithripala Sirisena's order to prorogue it until November 16, 2018.
The UNF, the TNA and the JVP have formally requested the Speaker to convene Parliament with immediate effect to discuss the current political situation.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, speaking to the members of the Foreign Correspondents Association (FCA) in Sri Lanka said, 126 MPs have requested the Speaker to convene Parliament forthwith.
Meanwhile, the Speaker held two crucial discussions with key foreign delegates today inside the Parliamentary complex.
Among them were Robert Hilton, Chargé d' Affaires of the US Embassy in Colombo (Acting Ambassador) and high-profile representatives from the UN.
