Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was sworn in on Friday as Prime Minister, visited the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy this morning to invoke the blessings of the sacred tooth relic.
This the former President's first official visit since he was sworn in as Prime Minister.
He is contested by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe who was also Prime Minister when Mahinda Rajapaksa was sworn in, making it the first time the country had two functioning Prime Ministers at a given time.
The newly-sworn in Prime Minister was visited by the Chinese Ambassador yesterday, marking the first official diplomatic visit since his new appointment.
The constitutionality of his appointment is disputed, and the United National Party (UNP) is considering a no-confidence motion against him.
