President Maithripala Sirisena has prorogued Parliament until November 16, Asian Mirror learns.
According to the constitution, the Speaker cannot convene Parliament when the President prorogue Parliamentary sessions.
The move indicates that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who took oaths as the Prime Minister yesterday, is yet to command majority support in the House.
Meanwhile President Sirisena has also removed Prime Minister's Secretary Saman Ekanayake from the position.
