Addressing a press conference attended by all party leaders of the United National Front, UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said, as the Prime Minister of the country, he did not want to create a "constitutional crisis".
"We know the public is going through a struggle. We did not want to burden them with a fresh crisis," Wickremesinghe said, adding that the matter should be resolved in Parliament.
"Parliament should be convened immediately. When Parliament is convened, we will show our majority," Wickremesinghe added.
All party leaders of the United National Front, namely JHU leader Patali Champika Ranawaka, SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem, ACMC Leader Rishad Bathiudeen, TPA Leader Mano Ganesan and Minister Rajitha Senaratne attended the press conference, pledging support to the Prime Minister.
Addressing the press conference, Ranawaka asked all parties to work according to the mandate and maintain law and order in the country.
"If they try to resort to street fights, we will respond to them accordingly," Ranawaka said.
