News Curry, a Sri Lankan content platform for political satire, gave an epic reply to President Maithripala Sirisena who said yesterday that he mistakenly believed he was joining the UNP of D.S. and Dudley Senanayake when becoming the Common Candidate of the UNP-led coalition.
Addressing the launching ceremony of the F.R.Senanayake biography yesterday, Sirisena said he soon realized that the UNP of D.S and Dudley Senanayake no longer existed.
"D.S. and Dudley were leaders who lived our traditions. They were not rogue or corrupt leaders, " Sirisena said launching a veiled attack on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe with whom he shares a rocky relationship.
The statement was widely ridiculed in social media as many said it demonstrated nothing but President Sirissna's political naivety.
News Curry, posting on the matter, tweeted, "'When I Collaborated With The UNP I Thought I Was Joining DS/Dudley' s UNP. But Only Later I Found Out That Both DS and Dudley Are Dead And Now So Is My Political Career,' Says President Sirisena."
