While the stressing that the public should keep a close eye on the affairs of the judiciary, new Chief Justice Nalin Perera said they even had the right to fiercely criticize a judgement.
"It does not amount to contempt of contempt. Ours should be a participatory process," Perera said while addressing his ceremonial induction ceremony at the Hulftsdorp courts complex.
He also added that the judiciary's independence and impartiality are paramount to restore the people's trust in the law enforcement process.
Perera said he would take every possible action to ensure that the judiciary is free of corruption and foul play.
The Chief Justice also added that the public grievances pertaining to the judicial process of the country should be sent to the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) and the Commission would take speedy measures over such matters.
