UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera today rubbished reports on forming a Caretaker Government saying it was only a completely fabricated story.
"There is no attempt to form a Caretaker Government and we don't intend to form one, " Amaraweera, a close ally of President Maithripala Sirissna, said, speaking to media.
"The current government will remain in powert till 2020. There will not be a change of government before that, " the Minister said.
"Any new government, " he said, "should come to power through the people's vote and not by behind the scene conspiracies."
However, it has been established that President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the residence of former Minisrer S. B. Dissanayake two weeks ago to discuss the possibility of a Caretaker Government.
Amaraweera's refusal indicates that the plans to form a Caretaker Government have been foiled.
