Former Attorney General and senior lawyer Shibly Aziz has passed away. 

He was also a member of the Constitutional Council appointed according to the 19th Amendment to the constitution. 

As the Attorney General, Aziz was precedes by Thilak Marapana and succeeded by Sarath Nanda Silva. The son of Advocate M.H.A. Aziz, he was the second Muslim Attorney General in the legal history of Sri Lanka. 

He also served on a number of national commissions and statutory bodies and represented Sri Lankan in several international fora.

In his private practice, Aziz specialized  in commercial law, shipping and aviation law, and public law, and hasd litigated several landmark cases in the country.
