The President's Office has forwarded a complaint written by a mother of one of the eleven youths abducted and killed in Colombo to the Ministry of Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Hindu Religious Affairs. 

Sending a letter to Jennifer Weerasinghe, a mother of one of the victims, an Additional Secretary to the President had instructed her to follow up the matter with the relevant ministry. 

The official had informed the parent that she could track the progress of her complaint online if she had access to the internet. 

The letter had been written to President Maithriplala Sirisena by Weerasinghe in the wake of the reports that he intervened to prevent the CID from arresting Admiral Ravindra Wijegunarate who was accused of shielding the main suspect in the case, Chandana Hettiarachchi, a former Navy officer.

President Sirisena's interference, in this case, came under criticism from members of his own government, including Ministers Rajitha Senaratne and Mangala Samaraweera.

The eleven youth had been abducted, illegally detained and then disappeared during the period of 2008 -2009. It has now been established that they were abducted for ransom.
