The Law and Order Ministry announced that no serious crime has been reported in any of the Police divisions in the Northern province, this year.
Presenting statistics on the crimes committed by armed criminal gangs in the North, the Ministry said media reports had sketched a distorted picture of reality. '
The Ministry said the Northern province was ranked above other provinces last week, in terms of resolution of crimes.
A statement by the ministry said 83% of crimes reported from the province last year were resolved. It also added that the same trend had was maintained during the first nine months of this year, as well.
According to the ministry, 10 incidents have been reported from the Jaffna Police division this year and 19 suspects have been arrested and produced in court by the Police.
It also added 11 other incidents have been reported from Kopai, Chunnakam and Manipai Divisions leading the Police to arrest 38 suspects. Eight of them, the ministry said, are currently in remand.
The Ministry said the Police had adopted successful measures to prevent the activities of the Aava group.
