President Maithripala Sirisena has said the Police Department should be reformed starting from the IGP.
The President has made this remark while addressing the Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Secretariat, yesterday.
Sirisena has also expressed displeasure over the behaviour of IGP Pujitha Jayasundara saying the leaders of the governmeng, including him and the Prime Minister, had come under heavy flak due to the IGP's conduct.
The President's remark came in the wake of his unsuccessful attempts to remove the Police chief citing a conspiracy on his life.
Sirisena also added that the public at large was dissatisfied with the IGP's conduct and "something had to be done" to correct the situation.
"People have lost respect for the Police as the IGP is behaving like a joker, " he had said.
The President also added that the number of crimes has increased in the country after Jayasundara took office.
