UNP National Organizer Navin Dissanayake admitted yesterday that no visible development had taken place in the country during the first three years of the national unity government.
Addressing a UNP meeting, the Minister said the complications of the current structure of the coalition government had prevented them from giving benefits to the grassroots level.
"There are problems, I admit. But. the President and the Prime Minister have resolved to proceed with the unity government. Under their leadership, we have set the right systems in place. Those systems will yield results within the next six months," Dissanayake added.
"I too want a pure UNP government. Then we can generate jobs for our supporters. We can conduct rural development activities according to our own priorities. We must all work towards that," he stated.
The Minister said there was a misconcieved notion that the Rajapaksas would return to power at the next elelction.
"Do you think we will allow them to come back to power?" he asked, adding that he would remain in the govenrment at least for another 10 years.
"we will see who their candidate is. Gotabhaya can never be the President of this country. If Basil decides to run for Presidency, our victory will be guaranteed," Dissanayake added.
He also described his party as the only political oraganization in the country with a robust second-tier leadership.
