Govt Introduces Host Of Reforms To Protect Rupee: No Vehicle Permits To MPs, State Workers: Importation Of Vehicles For State Institutions Suspended

As a way of addressing the looming foreign exchange issue, the government has suspended issuing vehicle permits for MP for one year, the Finance Ministry announced a short while ago. 

It also started vehicle permits issued for state sector employees would be suspended for 06 months. 

The government has also decided to impose a 100% LC margins for Refrigerators, A/Cs, Televisions, Perfumes, Mobile phones, washing machines and footwear.

Meanwhile, the loan to value ratio of hybrid vehicles has also been increased to 50:50. 

Government sources also added that importation of vehicles for government institutions have been suspended until further notice. 

These decisions came in the wake of the Sri Lankan rupee continued to depreciate against the US dollar creating a debilitating impact on several aspects of the economy.
