Sri Lanka Cricket today officially announced that former captain Angelo Mathews and Kusal Mendis have been dropped from the upcoming ODI series against England. 

Mathews, who was removed from captaincy earlier this week, has been dropped from the ODI squad due to fitness concerns  . 

It is learnt that Mathews has demanded a fitness test from cricket authorities to prove that he is fit enough to remain in the team.

Kusal Medis' poor form cost Sri Lanka heavily during the Asia Cup as he got out for a duck in both matches. 

Mendis has failed to score a half-century in almost 20 ODI innings. 

Cricket greats including Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena have already questioned the decision to use Kusal Mendis as an opener.
