In a breakthrough development, former Army Commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka is to be questioned by the CID today over the abduction of journalist Keith Noyahr.
Fonseka, now a Cabinet Minister, was the Army Commander at the time Noyahr was abducted.
The CID had already recorded statements from former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya over the incident.
Fonseka had previously stated that the attacks against journalists were carried out by a special squad operated under the former Defence Secretary, under the previous government.
However, Joseph Michael Perera, then a UNP MP, speaking in Parliament in 2009 pointed finger at Army Commander Fonseka over attacks against journalists.
Noyahr, the former Deputy Editor of the now defunct Nation newspaper, was abducted near his house in Dehiwala and tortured overnight.
