Dinesh Chandimal has been appointed the captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team across all format.
Chandimal, the regular Test captain of the national cricket team, was recently enrolled into ODI and T20 teams as a specialist batsman and a part-time wicketkeeper.
Chandimal withdrew from Asia Cup due to an injury he sustained during the final match of the domestic T20 league.
Chandimal will captain the Sri Lankan team during the forthcoming tour against England, in all formats.
The decision follows a discussion Mathew had with national selectors over the weekend.
Mathews has come under criticism not only over his captaincy, but also over his individual performance as a player.
