Disciplinary issues continue to cripple Sri Lanka Cricket as Sri Lankan opener Dhanushka Gunathilake runs the risk of facing another inquiry soon.
Gunathilake, who returned to the national squad after a 6 match ban over a disciplinary violation, has into a trouble again for purposely joining an international tournament with an injury.
A day after the Sri Lankan team arrived in Dubai, Gunathilake returned to the country complaining of a lower back injury. He did not take part in a single match of the tournament and Shehan Gunasekera was sent off to Dubai as Gunathilake's replacement.
It is suspected that the player joined the tournament knowing that he had a niggle in his back.
"When they withdraw from a tournament halfway through, without even taking part in a single match, they can fully claim their tournament fee through the insurance policy. That's why joining a tour deliberately concealing an injury is considered an offence, " an informed cricket source said.
Suspicions have been raised as rrports claimed that Gunathilake had not taken a single cricket bat with him when he left for Asia Cup tour.
Cricket sources said, if the player had not taken his bats, it indicated his intention to withdraw from the tour without playing a match.
This is Gunathilake's first tour after a 6 match ban he faced faced over his alleged association with a Norwegian woman during the 'team curfew'.
