Confirming the Asian Mirror report this morning, the Prime Minister's Office has officially stated that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has not given any instruction to IGP Pujith Jayasundara to resign from office.
Law and Order Deputy Minister Nalin Bandara also stated no such instruction had been given to the Police Chief by the Prime Minister.
However, it is learnt that a ministerial level inquiry will be held into the allegations leveled against IGP Jayasundara.
Speaking to Asian Mirror this morning, a Spokesman from the IGP's office contradicting media reports stating that President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had asked Jayasundara to resign from the post.
He also said this IGP had no reason to resign as he was not involved in any wrongdoing.
He also added the story was a figment of imagination of one media station.
The IGP, however, has come under persistent pressure due to allegations that one of its DIGs, Nalaka Silva, was involved in a conspiracy to kill President Maithripala Sirisena.
