Misappropriation Of Rs. 500 Million: Special Corruption High Court To Hear Gamini Senarath's Case Daily From October 29

The Special Corruption High Court has decided to hear the corruption case involving former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Cheif of Staff, Gamini Senarath, on a daily basis from October 29. 

Senarath is accused of misappropriating Rs. 500 million belonging to Litro Gas company. It was the first case to be taken up before the Special High Court for corruption. 

In addition to Senarath, former Managing Director of Insurance Corporation Piyadasa Kudabalage, former Samurdhi Commissioner Neil Hapuhinna and Lasantha Bandara have also been indicted in the case. 

The indictment said the four accused had illegally invested Rs. 500 million belonging to the state owned Litro Gas company in Hlanco Resort and Spa. 

They have been prosecuted under the Offences Against Public Property Act and Money Laundering Act.

The case was taken up before High Court judges Sampath Wijeyaratne, Sampath Abeykone and Champa Janaki Rajaratne. 

In addition to his post as the President's Chief of Staff, Searath also functioned as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation. He was also one of the most influential officials under the previous administration. 

The Special High Court for Corruption where this case will be head was inaugurated by Justice Minister Thalatha Atukorale yesterday.
