A group led by the family of Kamar Nizamdeen, the Sri Lankan student recently arrested in Australia over terrorism-related charges, held a demonstration in Colombo yesterday demanding justice for him.
They said Nizamdeen had not been given access to a lawyer for 07 days and was being kept in a solitary cell.
The demonstrators said they were confident that justice would prevail one day.
The Australian Police said Nizamdeen's laptop had "plans" to launch terrorist attacks on key strategic targets in the country . His family, however, had maintained that the charges against him was a 'set-up' by someone who was jealous of Nizamdeen's academic achievements .
The family also urged the Australian Police to expedite investigations against the youth and release him if the charges could not be substantiated.
Nizamdeen is a close relative of Cabinet Minister Faizser Mustapha who vouched for the youths innocent.
Mustapha said his entire family believed that Nizamdeen was innocent and had no involvement in wrongdoing.
