Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara caused havoc at a school he was invited to, to speak to students and teachers.
An overly jovial IGP used words considered swear words in the Sinhala language when addressing the teachers in the presence of the students.
*Ammata**** he said several times, in unsuitable language to the teachers, before asking them to indicate with a show of hands how many were qualified with a degree.
He also addressed the Buddhist priest presiding over the event irreverently, before entreating the media not to ‘misreport’ his ‘jokes’, saying they (the media) had the power to build a man or destroy him - saying the media had already portrayed him as a joker.
He added that he had nothing else to achieve as the IGP and his only duty was to serve the nation.
The IGP's behavior and the language he used at the event has received wide criticism on social media.
