Launching a scathing attack on the national carrier, President Maithripala Sirisena today said he was served "inedible cashew nuts" on a flight to Colombo last week.
Addressing a farmers' event in Hambantota this morning, an angry Sirisena asked who approved inedible cashew for the national carrier.
"I returned to Colombo from Nepal via New Delhi last week. I was offered a plate of cashew nuts on the flight. Not even a dog can eat them," the President said.
"How did that happen? Who approved the cashew nuts? Who is responsible for this?" the President asked.
Sirisena was in Nepal, last week, attending BIMSTEC summit where he was appointed the chair.
The President has already appointed a commission to look into alleged financial crimes at the SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier which suffered billions in losses under the previous government.
Under Sirisena's goverment, the Sri Lankan Airlines ran into further chaos prompting the President to appoint a commission.
