A large number of Muslims from Beruwala electorate have joined the 'Jana Balaya Kolambata' protest rally organized by the Joint Opposition.
They are led by Sri Lanka Podijana Peramuna's Local Government representatives in the Beruwala and Aluthgama areas.
Muslims in Beruwala and Aluthgama came under attack in June, 2015 and the Rajapaksa government did not take action to apprehend the perpetrators behind the incident.
It was widely alleged that the Bodu Bala Sena organization, supported by former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, was the main architect of the anti-Muslim violence in the area.
In an interesting turn of events, groups supporting the Bodu Bala Sena organization, Sinhale and Ravana Balaya also have taken part in the JO's protest campaign.
Social media pages run by them gave wide publicity to the protest march and invited their supporters to gather in Colombo.
